Kallakurichi: The police have arrested 3 people including a 17-year-old boy for inciting violence through a WhatsApp group in a private school violence incident in Kallakurichi district. With this, the number of people arrested in this matter has increased to 355.

Relatives and members of the public gathered and protested over the death of a +2 female student in a private matric higher secondary school in Kaniamoor, Kallakurichi district, demanding a judicial inquiry. The protest turned violent and the protesters torched vehicles including the school bus. They also looted the school supplies. Apart from this, more than 10 policemen were seriously injured in the stone pelting attack in this violence.

While the case has been transferred to CBCID, the Special Investigation Unit and CBCID police are taking action against the protesters based on video evidence. During this riot, the police are investigating with the help of cellphone network and CCTV cameras in the middle of the road, and are making subsequent arrests. Inciting violence, calling for protest, and spreading fake information about this issue are also being arrested.

In this case, the police registered a case against 3 people for creating a WhatsApp group and adding 400 people as members and posting comments to incite protest. Police have arrested 3 people including a 17-year-old boy from Airvaipatnam village of Kallakurichi district. With this, the number of people arrested in the Kallakurichi private school riot case has increased to 355.

It is to be noted that the Madras High Court dismissed the appeal petition filed seeking compensation for those arrested in the Kallakurichi school riots as not suitable for trial.
