A few years ago in India, attacks on innocent people who claimed to be cowgirls and who claimed that cows were being trafficked for curry continued.
Some deaths also occurred in this affair. While these incidents have been on the decline for a few years now, the BJP leader’s speech has sparked controversy.

Congress-ruled Rajasthan will hold elections at the end of next year. The parties have already started the election work. In this context, one of the senior BJP leaders there and former MLA, Gian Dev Ahuja, has sparked controversy for his comments regarding cow grazing in a meeting.
Addressing a gathering, he said in a video released, “Kill whoever is involved in cow-robbery. We have killed five people so far in Lalavandi or Behror areas alone.” He mentioned the murder in Ramgarh area in 2017 and 2018. It is noteworthy that when Rajasthan was ruled by BJP, Gian Dev Ahuja was the Ramgarh MLA.
In the video, he further controversially said, “Those involved in cow slaughter can be killed. I have given complete freedom to the volunteers. We will prosecute and get them bail or release.” In 2019, all six accused in the Behlu Khan murder case were acquitted in 2019. However, it is noteworthy that the Rajasthan Congress government has appealed before the change of government takes place.
As this video went viral on the internet, a case has been registered against him under various sections. At the same time, this is not the first time that Gyan Dev Ahuja has spoken in such a controversial manner. Earlier he had stirred controversy by saying that the real patriots were those who killed the cowherds and they were the true heirs of Chhatrapati Shivaji and Guru Gobind Singh.
Opposition parties including Congress have strongly condemned this. The Congress has questioned what more evidence is needed to prove that the BJP is spreading religious terrorism. While this is highly controversial, the BJP has given an explanation. BJP’s Sanjay Singh Naruka has said that it is his own opinion and it has nothing to do with BJP.
Gyan Dev Ahuja also explained his speech. “I did not say that we killed anyone. At the same time, those who kidnap and kill cows will not be released. I said that the volunteers attacked the five Muslims who kidnapped the cows. I did not say anything that could be misinterpreted,” he said.
