Case registered against Kanal Kannan: Reported as absconding

The cyber crime police have registered a case against film stunt master Kanal Kannan for defaming the statue of Periyar at the entrance of Srirangam temple. They are actively searching for him as he has absconded.

Kumaran, district secretary of Father Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam filed a complaint at the police commissioner’s office in Vepperi, Chennai today. Kanal Kannan, the Secretary of the State Art and Culture Department of the Hindu Front and Stunt Master, participated in a meeting held at Maduravayal on the 1st of last year. Speaking at the meeting, Kanal Kannan said that the day when the statue of Periyar at the entrance of the Sriranga temple is broken and removed will be the day of Hindu uprising.

Already in 2006 there was a riot when some anti-social elements vandalized the statue of Periyar in Srirangam. It is reprehensible that Kanal Kannan spoke with the aim of causing riots again now that it has been 15 years since that incident. Similarly, whenever DMK comes to power, some people are working to incite riots.

As Kanalkannan has spoken in such a way as to cause conflict between the two religions, it has been stated in the complaint that a case has been registered against him and those who caused the incident.

Regarding this complaint, Chennai Central Crime Branch Cyber Crime Police have registered a case under 2 sections. Kanal Kannan has been booked under sections 153- inciting to riot and 505(1)(b)- disturbing the peace of the Indian Penal Code.

In this case, the cyber crime police have gone to Maduravayal’s house to arrest Kanal Kannan. But not there. Similarly, the cybercrime police have said that he has gone into hiding as there was no search in the houses of Vadapalani and Valasaravakkam. Police are actively looking for arrests.
