Bhopal: It has been reported that the government of Madhya Pradesh is going to issue an order that private vehicles will no longer have to pay at the toll booths. It has been very popular among the vehicle users of the state. It is reported that this decision has been taken due to the traffic congestion at the toll booths.
Madhya Pradesh is under BJP rule led by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan. About 200 roads in the state come under the state transport department. Tolls on these roads are regularly collected. This causes huge traffic jams. So, to avoid this congestion, there are reports that the state government is going to decide to stop the collection of tolls.

With this, private vehicle owners no longer have to pay at tollgates. This rule applies to vehicles plying on all new and old roads under the State Road Development Corporation. State Transport Principal Secretary Neeraj Mandloi has recently confirmed that the proposal for this new rule has been sent to the Cabinet for final approval. Motorists will have to wait for a few days as the rule will be implemented only after approval by the cabinet.
Before taking this decision, the Public Works Department has inspected around 200 roads in the state, the information said. In this study, information has emerged that 80 percent of commercial vehicles and 20 percent of private vehicles pay customs duty. And vehicles paying this 20 percent tax get stuck in traffic jams for a long time. The number of vehicles for commercial use is more than the number of private vehicles. Therefore, the government plans to exempt private vehicles from customs duty to overcome this problem.
Right of collection
Earlier, 200 roads taken under the scrutiny of Public Works Department were constructed by the State Road Development Corporation on Build Operate and Transfer (POD) mode. POD system means that the government gives the collection right to the private company for a specified period of time to collect the amount due to the private company constructing the road. Or the right of collection will be given to a private company undertaking road maintenance.
The central government is planning to implement the GPS-based toll collection system across the country in the near future in terms of road rules. According to this, instead of paying at the tollgate, you will have to pay according to the distance traveled on the highway. For example, the more distance a person uses the highway, the more he has to pay. This toll collection system has been successfully implemented in many European countries. The central government is currently planning to bring this to use across the country.
Madhya Pradesh State Government has decided to demolish the rule of toll tax collections from private vehicle owners.
