NCRT finds lacks in CBCID investigation in Kallakurichi case

In the case of the mysterious death of the Kallakurichi girl, there was some flaw in the police investigation and the school administration was indifferent to the safety of the girl child, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights Priyang Kanungo said.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights conducted an investigation for about five and a half hours after visiting the school hostel and the parents of the student, investigating officers regarding the mysterious death of the student.

On the 13th, a female student in the school hostel died mysteriously in a private matriculation higher secondary school in Chinna Salem Kanyamoor, Kallakurichi district. While the CBCID police are investigating the case, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the State Commission for Protection of Child Rights came to Kallakurichi today to investigate the case. Initially, they went to the house of the student, her parents, the hostel where the student was staying in the school and the school premises where she allegedly died, and finally the authorities who investigated the case from the beginning regarding the death of the student.

A 7-member team headed by National Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Priyang Kanungo, who arrived in Kallakurichi this morning, met the parents of the deceased student in Vepur Periya Nesalur village of Cuddalore district and conducted an investigation for an hour.

After this, they went to the private school hostel in Chinna Salem, Kallakurichi district, where the student is said to have died, and conducted an investigation. During the investigation, they visited the hostel where the student stayed, the class she attended, the place where she allegedly fell from the third floor and the places where she allegedly fell on the ground floor. They inspected the school for more than an hour.

Following this investigation, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights team that came to the district collector’s office, the officials who had been investigating the case from the beginning, Kallakurichi Superintendent of Police Selvakumar, who had been transferred, the police department and the doctors who examined the student, conducted a separate investigation.

Today (July 27) the investigation started at 9 am and was held till 2.30 pm at three places. Priyang Kanungo, Chairman of the National Child Rights Protection Commission, who met the media following the investigation, said, “The National Child Rights Protection Commission and the State Child Rights Protection Commission jointly went to the home of the deceased student and conducted an investigation. After that, we went to the school where the student died and visited the hostel where she was staying and the place where she died.

Apart from that, we have met and investigated all the officials who are investigating this case. In this, we investigated the doctors who examined the student, the District Principal Education Officer, the District Child Rights Protection Commission Officer, the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police.

And so far as we have observed there seems to be some flaws in the preliminary investigation. Apart from that, it has been revealed that the school management was running the hostel without permission. The school management has also been negligent in the death of the student. Also, the school management has not properly inspected the basic facilities of the students. We are going to submit everything we have investigated as a report to the central and state governments,” he said.

And to the question raised by the journalist about what is the flaw in the investigation, the Chairman of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights said that we will mention it in the report.
